Sex Pistols Set to Record Again?

Sex Pistols Set to Record Again?

Somehow, this little tidbit managed to escape my radar until now. Better late then never, right?
In any case, it appears that there’s been talk of the Sex Pistols reuniting to record some new material – their first new songs in 30 years!
I’m not sure about you, but if it happens I’m DEFINITELY going to be excited.
While the likelihood of recording an actual album seems nil, the Sex Pistols hope they’ll have some new material ready by summer for their fans.

Does “Punk” Mean You Have to be Bad?

Does “Punk” Mean You Have to be Bad?

What does the word punk mean?
According to Dictionary.com, punk takes on a variety of meanings, including “someone who is worthless or unimportant; a hoodlum.” Let’s face it – we’ve all seen those groups of teenagers at the mall, complete with purple hair, Mohawks, piercings and looking seriously bad. Some of them might even fit this definition.
But that’s not what punk is about. Punk isn’t about drinking until you puke, giving the middle finger to someone who cuts you off, or using drugs to the point of oblivion. It isn’t even about the clothes you wear, what type of music you …read more

CBGB Turned… Fashion Boutique?

CBGB Turned… Fashion Boutique?

Yeah, I know… you saw the title of this post and probably went “HUH” just like I did.
It’s true, though – the legendary punk rock venue CBGB, which closed its doors a year ago, will reopen as a high-end fashion boutique.
Weird but true. I can’t say I understand it myself, but designer John Varvatos tentatively plans to open the boutique next March.
What are your thoughts? I’m a little… weirded out by the fact that a class punk rock venue will reopen as, of all things, a fashion store – but what about you?
Until next time, stay true.

Blender Ridicules the Sex Pistols

Blender Ridicules the Sex Pistols

You may recall the post I did awhile back, when a music critic called The Clash “lame.” If you don’t, that’s why I linked it for ya!
In any case, Blender – an online magazine that advertises itself as “the ultimate guide to music and more,” has decided that the Sex Pistols Nevermind the Bollocks… deserves a spot on the “10 Most Overpraised Records Ever” list.
Hold the phone, please.
While I can agree with some of the records they chose for the list, I am vehemently against including the Sex Pistols. If they had at least attempted to explain with any depth …read more

Time Magazine’s 30th Anniversary of Punk Video Essay

Time Magazine’s 30th Anniversary of Punk Video Essay

In an interesting multimedia documentary of punk rock, Time Magazine has chronicled the “30th Anniversary of Punk” in an amazing photo/video montage of the front-runners of punk rock, including The Clash and The Sex Pistols, among others.
If you’ve got a little time to kill, I strongly recommend you check the video out. It’s brief, but still manages to cover most of the important acts that created the punk rock movement.
Seriously, what are you waiting for! Check it out here. Let me know what you think!

The Offspring Get New Drummer

The Offspring Get New Drummer

Aw, it appears the Offspring have gotten a new drummer.
Atom Willard has officially left the band, apparently to focus on his other band, Angels and Airwaves. He still remains friends with the band and wishes them all the best.
Now, Willard has been replaced with Pete Parada, who has been a member of Alkaline Trio, Saves The Day AND Face to Face.

Fall Out Boy Post New Remix?

Fall Out Boy Post New Remix?

Okay, just to set the record straight up front – I do not like Fall Out Boy. However, they are technically classified as “pop punk,” so they aren’t completely irrelevant to this blog
Why am I writing about this? It’s quite simple – because I get to bash them. Juvenile, perhaps, but hear me out. They’ve released a new remix of their single “This Ain’t a Scene, it’s an Arms Race.”
If they were going to collaborate with other artists, you think they’d pick a few that actually sounded musically similar to their slightly aggravating style.

Punk’s Not Dead

Punk’s Not Dead

Holy Smokes, Batman. I can’t believe I didn’t know about this earlier.
Susan Dynner, director/producer and self-professed punk rock aficionado created the documentary “Punk’s Not Dead.” I am SUPER excited to check it out, although it still hasn’t been released in a theater near me yet. Bummer.

Punk Rock… Yoga?

Punk Rock… Yoga?

I know, I know… this blog post has nothing to do with new album releases, which bands are touring where, or how that piece of gum ended up on the bottom of my computer desk… ew!
I digress.

Music Critic Calls The Clash “Lame”

Music Critic Calls The Clash “Lame”

Apparently, The Clash suck. So does Metallica, Nirvana, The Doors, The Beatles… some of the most influential and well-known bands in the world.
I’m not sure if MSNBC contributor Dave White was attempting to be humorous with “The rock ‘n’ roll hall of lame”, but if so, I’m afraid he fell ridiculously short.
