Punk Rock… Yoga?
I know, I know… this blog post has nothing to do with new album releases, which bands are touring where, or how that piece of gum ended up on the bottom of my computer desk… ew!
I digress.
While it doesn’t have to do with punk music in the conventional sense, it has plenty to do with the spirit of punk rock - and let’s face it, punk rock is spirited.
I’m talking about Punk Rock Yoga, which I happened to run across in one of my aimless internet searches (yeah, I do that a lot.)
According to their mission statement, “punk rock yoga isn’t… yoga to punk music. [It’s] a punk rock approach to yoga…[without] the pomp and circumstance creeping its way into yoga today.”
Huh. Sounds interesting. Right now, there only seems to be classes in the Seattle, New York and Toronto areas. However, I did notice a section on their website about starting a Punk Rock Yoga class in your area.
I think it’s a neat concept, and the fact they draw their inspiration from punk rock music leads me to believe it could be of interest to you.
Stay true,
Denise

Also being a frequent, aimless internet searcher, I’ve seen this as well (researching pregnancy yoga of all things). And yes it does look neat — I like how you slipped this in here. Cool.

Hrm wonder how they accomplish this in yoga. Kinda sounds like industrial Tao Bo. Love your posts though keep it up!

Reminds me of “Hardcore Zen”, which is a punk rocker from Ohio who found zen, wrote a book, and actually became an ordained monk who now both teaches zen and still produces from his old band’s b-sides. I think he also does a column for Suicide Girls…
Speaking of crossovers, I went to see Screaming Cyn-Cyn and the Pons last night, which bills itself as “theatrical punk”. A great blend of good music and performance art, with nods towards the Bauhaus movement, drag shows, and a kick-ass sound. Review over at my site, if you’re interested.
